HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE Move Forward
Excellerate provides teens phasing out of foster care a chance at a great life through connection, life skills, and removing barriers to independence.
What We Do:
Build Connections
Establishing healthy connections with people who can support these youth for the future is vital. We can’t force connection but we can provide opportunities and environments where connection can naturally happen.
We strive to create environments with intentionality by empowering emotionally healthy leaders to encourage and build relationships during time spent with our students.
Learn Life Skills
During the entire program we work on skills training. We didn’t just come up with these on our own; we asked foster youth, case workers, social workers and other professionals to help us help our students. Here is a list of some of the skills trainings we use to work with our students.
Preserving during adversity
Setting goals and dealing with obstacles
Understanding our experiences
Removing Barriers
Removing the barrier of a lack of transportation is a priority for our program. Fargo YWCA says that the number one barrier to independent living is not having transportation.
After graduating, Excellerate students can apply to receive a vehicle. They have to meet a few requirements to do this. The caseworkers and Excellerate team needs to be in agreement that the student is ready for a vehicle and it is in their best interest.
